Celebrating the changing of the seasons is a beautiful way to celebrate life itself. To pause, to reflect, to honour; to be reminded of the inner seasons we each cycle through. As we move through this Spring Equinox portal I have been reflecting on the mystery of transitional time.

Typically the equinoxes are celebrated as times of balance, an ode to the equalling day and night. Yet they are also liminal spaces. We are no longer in winter and have not yet arrived in the fullness of spring. We are standing on a threshold — the fertility of rebirth.

The changing of seasons doesn’t happen in one day. Nature is far too intelligent to work to this kind of mechanical schedule - that is best suited to our marketing calendars. The turning is often a gentle, and sometimes discomforting, slow unfurling. Winter gives birth to spring, spring joyously bursts into summer, summer gloriously fades into autumn and autumn falls into the arms of winter, where we sleep and begin anew.
